Led Zeppelin is gearing up to reissue three more deluxe editions of some of their most classic 1970’s studio albums. This will be the conclusion of a year-long reissue campaign, during which time the legendary rock group has remastered and reprinted deluxe editions of many of their most celebrated records. All of these reissues include extra features, such as previously unreleased material, rare recordings, collaborations with other groups such as the Bombay Orchestra, and alternate mixes.
Jimmy Page himself has remastered each of these reissued albums, along with their bonus discs and companion packs. The group is even reconceptualizing the artwork and presentation of these new CD releases. Vinyl digital downloads, and hardbound books of pictures and artwork will be available upon request. Presence – an album that Led Zeppelin recorded over 18 days in Munich in 1976 – will contain five previously unreleased reference mixes from the sessions, which enable listeners to appreciate the album versions as works in progress. These tracks will include alternate versions of “For Your Life,” “Achilles Last Stand” and “Royal Orleans”. If you’re a Led Zeppelin geek, then this will be a real treat for you.
In Through the Out Door’s companion audio CD will feature unfinished recordings of every song on the LP, along with the early working titles of these songs. Fans will be able to listen to early versions of “All My Love” (titled “The Hook”), “Carouselambra” (titled “The Epic”) and “I’m Gonna Crawl” (“Blot”).
Finally, the reissued edition of Coda – which originally came out two years after the death of drummer John Bonham – will feature two discs’ worth of companion audio which span recordings the group made between 1968 and 1974. Coda’s bonus material will also contain recordings from Jimmy Page and Robert Plant’s 1972 trip to India, which arguably impacted the entire group’s trajectory for the rest of their careers.
Led Zeppelin has been immersed in this project of remastering and reissuing their old albums for about a year now, perhaps intended as a retrospective of their impressive oeuvre.
