Lil Wayne is the epitome of outspoken. Unlike other musicians who remain tight-lipped to avoid controversy, Weezy speaks his mind. This has led to some interesting (to say the least) exchanges during interviews with the star. Here, we present our list of the seven most outrageous things Lil Wayne has said during interviews. Ready for the madness? Check it out for yourself below!
Number Seven: Lil Wayne on His Love for Jay
Last year, Weezy did an interview with Wild Wayne, a New Orleans radio personality. In the interview, he revealed that he still gets excited when Jay Z texts him. He said, “Just getting personal texts and not just little texts about ‘Yeah, there was a song I heard. I saw what you said that’s cool. Thanks.’ Getting real texts from Jay Z. That right there is a highlight everyday. I can’t even front.”
Number Six: On Why He Dropped the D
During Lil Wayne’s interview with Katie Couric before the 2009 Grammys, he discussed why he dropped the “D” from his first name, which used to be Dwayne. He discussed that he dropped the D because his father has never been a part of his life. When Couric asked Weezy if his father knew that, Wayne replied, “He knows now.”
Number Five: On Providing for His Kids
In a 2011 GQ interview, Weezy commented on raising his kids when he was discussing retiring at 35 (he is now 33 years old). In the interview, he said, “I have enough money that [my kids] don’t have to ever do anything – which, they will do everything, ’cause they ain’t getting sh*t.”
Number Four: On Drugs
In that same GQ interview, Wayne discussed his favorite drugs and what he wishes he could be doing again. He said, “I ain’t tripping. I’m used to it now. But I was never on heroin or cocaine or ecstasy or nothing like that. I drank syrup and smoked a lot of weed. I wish I could be back on it.”
Number Three: On Listening to Music in Prison
Wayne did an interview on New York Hot 97 in 2010 while he was still in prison. He said that he listened to sports radio all day, but it wasn’t because he couldn’t listen to music. He said, “All I listen to all day, if I am listening to anything, is sports. And that ain’t because of nothing, just the simple fact that I’ve never listened to anyone else’s music but my own, and since I’m not able to do that up in here, I don’t listen to anything.”
Number Two: On Doing What He Wants
This Weezy gem is one for the books. During his infamous interview with Katie Couric before the 2009 Grammy Awards, Lil Wayne was asked what a “gangsta” is. He responded, “I don’t take nothin’ from no one. I do what I wanna do. And I’m gonna do that until the day I die. And if I can’t do that, then I’ll just die.”
Number One: On Aging
Weezy did an interview with Rolling Stone in 2015, and during the interview, he discussed his daughter and how his age has created a sort of communication barrier between them. He said, “Sometimes I don’t know what the hell [young people] are talking about on Instagram. I had to call [my daughter Reginae], like, ‘What the hell is ‘on fleek’?'” We feel you, Lil Wayne.
