Lil Wayne’s Manager Defends the Rapper’s Loyalty

The Cash Money Records and Lil Wayne drama continues to unfold. It’s been a month since Lil Wayne sent out tweets about his displeasure with his label, Cash Money. He also singled out Cash Money co-founder, Bryan “Birdman” Williams. The rapper blames the label and his boss for the delay of his highly-anticipated Tha Carter V album. While most of Cash Money’s artists and executives have been quiet, Lil Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant, spoke out in the rapper’s defense on social media. The lengthy message stated that Lil Wayne built Young Money and launched the careers of Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga. Bryant said the rapper put everything into making sure these artists fulfilled their dreams. He also said Lil Wayne carried Cash Money on his back for over ten years. Bryant called the rapper the most loyal person he knows, because Wayne could have left the label. He concluded the “open letter” by stating, “Lil Wayne does not deserve this kind of treatment at this point in his career.” Lil Wayne has been an artist at Cash Money since 1996.

Just recently, Lil Wayne addressed the turmoil with the label on his song “Sh!t Remix.” On the record, he rapped the lyrics, “Did my time at Cash Money/Time served and released/But this agent ain’t free.” “Sh!t Remix” will be featured on the mixtape Sorry 4 The Wait 2. No official release date for the mixtape has been announced. The last studio album Lil Wayne released was I Am Not a Human Being II in 2013. The album sold 529,000 copies. After the last release, fans were eagerly expecting the rapper to release Tha Carter V the following year. Tha Carter V will be Wayne’s eleventh studio album, and possibly his last. In 2014, Lil Wayne spoke about his possible retirement, “I personally plan on this being my final solo album, yes, and it’s definitely the final Carter album.” The album is expected to be released later this year. It is also expected to be released through Cash Money Records, despite the recent issues between the label and Lil Wayne. The hip hop star may decide to drop a series of mixtapes until his album is released. Luckily, record labels don’t have the power to delay the release of an artist’s mixtape.
